As marriages are increasing in the Middle Eastern country of Kuwait, divorce rates are also increasing at an alarming rate. According to the latest statistics from the country's Ministry of Justice, one marriage is currently taking place there every 34 minutes. On the contrary, one divorce is being completed every 75 minutes.

The Statistics and Research Department of the Ministry of Justice of Kuwait recently published this report based on data from the month of November 2025. This mathematical picture is based on data collected by the country's Sharia Notarization Department.

This information was reported in a report by the Kuwait Times on Tuesday (January 20).

It said that the demand for Sharia notarization services in Kuwait increased significantly in November. A total of more than 10,000 transactions related to marriage, marriage certification, divorce, reconciliation, government notices and conversion to Islam were registered in that month.

According to statistics, a total of 1,252 transactions related to marriage and reconciliation were registered in November. There were an average of 42 transactions per day, which means one marriage or reunion is registered every 34 minutes. On the other hand, 595 divorces or talaqs were registered in the same month. On average, there were about 20 divorces per day, meaning one divorce was registered every 1 hour and 15 minutes.

According to the data, the number of marriage contracts was 1,143, which is an average of 38 per day. More than 73 percent of the marriage contracts were between Kuwaiti citizens. The participation of non-Kuwaiti people was more than 16 percent. In addition, the marriage rate between Kuwaiti men and non-Kuwaiti women was 8.2 percent. The marriage rate between non-Kuwaiti men and Kuwaiti women was 2.3 percent.

109 marriage certificates were registered that month, which is an average of 3.6 per day.

Among these contracts, the marriage certificate rate between a Kuwaiti husband and a non-Kuwaiti wife was the highest, at about 54 percent. However, no marriage certificate was registered among Kuwaiti couples.

The Kuwait Times report also said that about 74 percent of marriage-related transactions were completed based on a court ruling. In addition, about 82 percent of marriage contracts were registered abroad, but only 18 percent were completed through the Sharia Notary Department.

Divorce data showed that out of 595 divorce cases registered in November last year, the divorce rate for Kuwaiti couples was 58.7 percent. At that time, 92 reconciliation cases were registered, which is an average of about three per day. About 86 percent of these cases were completed through reconciliation certificates.

In terms of government-related transactions and transactions related to conversion to Islam, a total of 52,359 transactions were completed in November. The average number of these transactions per day was 1,745.

Of these transactions, 99.9 percent of transactions were completed through government channels. There were only 58 online conversions to Islam.

এতে বলা হয়েছে, গত নভেম্বর মাসে কুয়েতে শরিয়া নোটারাইজেশন সেবার চাহিদা উল্লেখযোগ্যভাবে বেড়েছে। ওই মাসে বিয়ে, বিয়ের সত্যায়ন, তালাক, পুনর্মিলন, সরকারি নোটিশ ও ইসলাম গ্রহণসংক্রান্ত মোট ১০ হাজারের বেশি লেনদেন নথিভুক্ত করা হয়।

পরিসংখ্যান অনুযায়ী, নভেম্বর মাসে বিয়ে ও পুনর্মিলনসংক্রান্ত মোট ১ হাজার ২৫২টি লেনদেন নিবন্ধিত হয়েছে। এতে গড়ে প্রতিদিন ৪২টি লেনদেন হয়েছে, যা হিসাবে প্রতি ৩৪ মিনিটে একটি বিয়ে বা পুনর্মিলনের ঘটনা নথিভুক্ত হয়েছে। অন্যদিকে, একই মাসে ৫৯৫টি বিবাহবিচ্ছেদ বা তালাক নিবন্ধিত হয়েছে। গড়ে প্রতিদিন প্রায় ২০টি তালাকের ঘটনা ঘটেছে, অর্থাৎ প্রতি ১ ঘণ্টা ১৫ মিনিটে একটি তালাক নথিভুক্ত হয়েছে।

তথ্য অনুযায়ী, বিয়ে চুক্তির সংখ্যা ছিল ১ হাজার ১৪৩টি, যা গড়ে প্রতিদিন ৩৮টি। বিয়ের ক্ষেত্রে ৭৩ শতাংশের বেশি চুক্তি কুয়েতি নাগরিকদের মধ্যে হয়েছে। আর কুয়েতি নন; এমন ব্যক্তিদের অংশগ্রহণ ছিল ১৬ শতাংশের বেশি। এ ছাড়া কুয়েতি পুরুষ ও কুয়েতি নন এমন নারীর মধ্যে বিয়ের হার ছিল ৮ দশমিক ২ শতাংশ। কুয়েতি নন এমন পুরুষ ও কুয়েতি নারীর মধ্যে বিয়ের হার ছিল ২ দশমিক ৩ শতাংশ।

ওই মাসে ১০৯টি বিয়ে সত্যায়ন চুক্তি নিবন্ধিত হয়েছে, যা গড়ে প্রতিদিন ৩ দশমিক ৬টি।

এসব চুক্তির মধ্যে কুয়েতি স্বামী ও কুয়েতি নন এমন স্ত্রীর মধ্যে বিয়ে সত্যায়নের হার ছিল সর্বাধিক, প্রায় ৫৪ শতাংশ। তবে কুয়েতি দম্পতিদের মধ্যে কোনো বিয়ে সত্যায়ন চুক্তি নথিভুক্ত হয়নি।

কুয়েত টাইমসের প্রতিবেদনে আরও বলা হয়, বিয়েসংক্রান্ত লেনদেনের প্রায় ৭৪ শতাংশ আদালতের রায়ের ভিত্তিতে সম্পন্ন হয়েছে। এ ছাড়া বিয়ে চুক্তির প্রায় ৮২ শতাংশ বিদেশে নথিভুক্ত হলেও শরিয়া নোটারাইজেশন বিভাগের মাধ্যমে সম্পন্ন হয়েছে মাত্র ১৮ শতাংশ।

তালাকসংক্রান্ত তথ্যে দেখা গেছে, গত বছরের নভেম্বর মাসে নথিভুক্ত ৫৯৫টি তালাকের মামলার মধ্যে কুয়েতি দম্পতিদের তালাকের হার ছিল ৫৮ দশমিক ৭ শতাংশ। এ সময় ৯২টি পুনর্মিলন মামলা নথিভুক্ত হয়েছে, যা গড়ে প্রতিদিন প্রায় তিনটি। এসব মামলার প্রায় ৮৬ শতাংশ পুনর্মিলন সনদপত্রের মাধ্যমে সম্পন্ন হয়েছে।

সরকারি মাধ্যম এবং ইসলাম গ্রহণসংক্রান্ত লেনদেনের ক্ষেত্রে নভেম্বর মাসে মোট ৫২ হাজার ৩৫৯টি লেনদেন সম্পন্ন হয়েছে। গড়ে প্রতিদিন এসব লেনদেনের সংখ্যা ছিল ১ হাজার ৭৪৫টি।

এসব লেনদেনের মধ্যে ৯৯ দশমিক ৯ শতাংশ লেনদেন সরকারি মাধ্যমে সম্পন্ন হয়েছে। অনলাইনে ইসলাম ধর্ম গ্রহণসংক্রান্ত কার্যক্রম ছিল মাত্র ৫৮টি।
